"Elisabeth Costello. Seven Lectures and Five Moral Tales" by Krzysztof Warlikowski

The figure of a writer named Elisabeth Costello (J.M. Coetzee) appeared for the first time in 1999 , when John Maxwell Coetzee was invited to hold two lectures at universities in the US, dedicated to the writer Elisabeth Costello, who had been invited to hold two lectures at universities in the US. Ever since, the author has written several pieces featuring this figure and her biography has begun to gradually expand.

Costello is also a favourite character of Krzysztof Warlikowski’s theatre plays, often appearing in an unplanned manner. Previously she appeared in five of his plays: in some under her own name, in others she was given voice by other characters. However, the director has never dedicated an entire performance to her although, as evidenced by his achievements, she demands his attention and haunts him probably as frequently as her original creator. In his latest play, Warlikowski finally breathes life into a plan the existence of which he might not have been aware of, but which seems very logical bearing in mind how often he has invited Elisabeth to appear in his theatrical world.
