CALL ME JAY is a peculiar “ballet” that explores various ways in which humans and non-humans exert control over one another, revealing possibilities for coexistence and interaction. In a playful engagement with a spotlight, the performers use classical choreographic strategies: they copy, manipulate, improvise, attempt to control the light—and each other. To capture the materiality of surrounding objects, they rely on their senses, especially touch and hearing, undergo physical transformation, and generate a flow of choreography by setting objects on the stage into motion.

The living collides with the mechanical, the active with the passive, and objects transform into subjects and back again. The focus is on what emerges from the interaction between different elements.

CALL ME JAY seeks to awaken imagination about new forms of community and cooperation between humans and non-humans, and humorously invites the audience to fantasize about (unusual) connections between humans and technology and their (im)possible coexistence.
