Polish authors on the Krokodil Literary Festival

Since its founding in 2009, the KROKODIL Association has organized the annual KROKODIL Literary Festival, held in Belgrade, Serbia. Initially conceived as a regional event focused on promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and the rebuilding of broken ties—particularly within the Western Balkans—the festival quickly grew into an increasingly international platform. Today, it is one of the most distinctive and popular events in the Southeast European region, exploring pressing cultural, political, and social themes of our time.

The KROKODIL Association is one of the few independent and impartial cultural and literary organizations in Serbia. It is dedicated to producing literary, cultural, and socio-political programs and projects aimed at developing audiences interested not only in culture and politics per se, but also in promoting principles of accountability among state institutions, NGOs, and the media in Serbia. Committed to fostering democratic culture, civic activism, and public awareness of political rights, KROKODIL acts as a think-and-do tank devoted to the rule of law. Taking into account Serbia’s unique geopolitical position today and the broader significance of European security, it plays an important role in strengthening Serbia’s movement toward the EU. To that end, KROKODIL focuses on the development of various programs of social and political relevance, promoting fundamental human rights and freedoms with a strong emphasis on civic engagement.

As part of this year’s festival edition, held under the theme “Under Pressure,” Poland will be represented by writers Dorota Masłowska, Barbara Woźniak, and Margo Rejmer, as well as Berenika Kołomycka and Piotr Marzec, who will also lead comic book creation workshops.

Additionally, the program will include a separate segment, “Meet Me in Belgrade”—a three-day networking meeting of international publishers and literary festival programmers. Representatives of the Krakow Festival Office and the słowo/obraz terytoria publishing house will take part on behalf of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
