Ada Zielińska, a Polish photographer and visual artist, will present her artistic installation Post Tourism at the prestigious Photo Brussels Festival, co-organized by the association La Nombreuse. Premiering in Brussels, the installation combines photography, sound, and sensory experiences to explore the impact of tourism and globalization on contemporary landscapes and the environment. Since 2018, the artist has been examining the future of tourism by traveling to locations affected by climate disasters, uncovering beauty in these apocalyptic landscapes. From wildfires in California and the 2019 Venice floods to a volcanic eruption in Iceland, Ada Zielińska expresses her fascination with destruction, a recurring theme in her work. She raises questions about humanity’s tendency to be drawn to darkness and catastrophe—a form of voyeuristic interest in tragedy characteristic of contemporary Western societies. In Post Tourism, Zielińska offers a unique perspective on places that have become tourist attractions, illustrating how tourism transforms their appearance and function. The installation evocatively references an apocalyptic vision of the future, emphasizing the destructive impact of human activities on the environment.
