Premiere of the performance “Storm” by Paweł Sakowicz

On June 13, 2025, the premiere of the performance “Storm” by Paweł Sakowicz, a renowned Polish choreographer and dancer, will take place in the Grand Hall of the Sapieha Palace in Vilnius. The event is part of the exhibition “Breaking the Joints.” The performance combines choreography by Paweł Sakowicz with music by Agnė Matulevičiūtė, lighting design by Julius Kuršys, and costumes created by Elena Marija Veleckaitė.

Viewers will also have opportunity to see repeated performance on June 20, 2025.

“Storm” is a reflection on corporeality and the history of dance, explorin, g issues of cultural appropriation in choreography. Sakowicz, known for works such as “Jumpcore” and “Masakra”, has presented his creations at international festivals and prestigious contemporary art institutions.

Paweł Sakowicz is an acclaimed Polish choreographer and dancer, born in 1988 in Białystok. He holds a degree in political science from the University of Warsaw and a Master's degree in performance and choreography from the London Contemporary Dance School. In his artistic practice, Sakowicz focuses on the history of dance and the theme of cultural appropriation in choreography. His works—including “Jumpcore”, “Masakra”, “TOTAL”, “Bernhard”, and “Boa”—have been shown at major festivals and institutions in Poland and abroad, including Zachęta – National Gallery of Art, Nowy Teatr in Warsaw, TR Warszawa, Komuna Warszawa, as well as festivals such as La Biennale de danse du Val-de-Marne, Divine Comedy Festival, and NYU Skirball in New York. His performances often explore the boundaries between dance and other performing arts, combining elements of theatre, music, and visual arts. In his 2015 piece “TOTAL”, the artist examined virtuosity and speculation as potential choreographic tools. He is a key figure on the contemporary choreography scene associated with the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (MSN).

The performance is part of the exhibition "Breaking the Joints" at the Sapieha Palace, curated by Post Brothers and Edgaras Gerasimovičius.
