SOLIDARITY ON SCREEN

Polish cinema represents one of the most distinctive traditions in European and world cinema - combining formal innovation with a deep ethical commitment to history, memory, and moral responsibility. From Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Kieślowski to Agnieszka Holland and the new generation of Polish filmmakers, there is a continuous line of auteur engagement with social and political reality.

The carefully curated film series Polish School of Reality, to be held at the Cinematheque of North Macedonia in May 2025, offers a rare and valuable insight into the visual narrative and historical self-reflection of Polish cinematography - from late socialism to the contemporary challenges of Europe. The program leads us through a cinematic topography where individual fate, social inertia, and political repression intertwine in the structures of memory, trauma, and resistance.

POLISH FILM WEEK is organized in collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of the international cultural program of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2025.

This series is not only a tribute to Polish cinema - it is a reconstruction of European historical consciousness through film, a documentary record of humanity’s struggle against forgetting, political torment, and internal apathy. Each film in the program offers not only artistic value but also a contextual analysis of the conditions that shaped Poland from the times of the People’s Republic to today’s European challenges - making the series a key part of the Cinematheque’s cultural offering for May 2025.
