Solidarity on Screen: The Polish Presidency Film Review at Irish Film Institute

The screening of movie PEOPLE organised to mark the 3rd anniversary of the full-scale Russian Invasion of Ukraine, will take place on Monday, 10 March at 5:45pm in the Irish Film Institute (6 Eustace Street, Temple Bar, D2). It is jointly hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Dublin and the Embassy of Ukraine in Dublin and it forms part of the Polish Embassy’s cultural programme of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The movie PEOPLE presents a very suggestive, at times terrifying picture of the Russian invasion seen through the eyes of Ukrainian women and children who, in order to save themselves and their loved ones, are forced to act in most heroic ways. It is, however, not a story of tragedy, but, above all, a testament to human courage, solidarity, and determination in the face of unimaginable suffering.

Austere and naturalistic in its form, inspired by true events and produced with a documentalist’s sensitivity, it successfully preserves the memory of those first days of the war. It is also a way to remind the world that the war in Ukraine, even though it may seem distant, concerns us all.
