Unity – Mosaic Workshops as part of the Solidarity Street Art project
26.05–28.05.2025
Planetarium and Youth Cultural Center, Skopje, North Macedonia
Unity are mosaic workshops held as part of the cultural program of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Positioned at the intersection of theory and practice, the workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of mosaic art in Poland and to develop new skills in the fields of art, design, architecture, and visual culture. The workshops will take place at the Youth Cultural Center in Skopje. After an introduction to mosaic-making practices in Poland and technical aspects of the medium, participants will collaborate on a collective piece and also have the opportunity to work on individual designs using pixel-based elements.
The workshop accompanies the creation of a mosaic by Sainer (Przemysław Blejzyk), one of the most renowned urban artists in Poland. During the sessions, participants will use the same materials that Sainer employed in his artwork.
The workshop will be led by Sławek ZBIOK Czajkowski. Zbiok is a muralist and urban art interventionist affiliated with the Wrocław street art scene. His works have also been showcased in gallery spaces. He has curated several exhibitions, including External Artists. Out of Sth. (Wrocław 2008), the first large-scale presentation of this genre in Poland. He is also the creator of a documentary film about the urban art scene (premiered in April 2011). Tristan Manco, a critic specializing in graffiti, included him among the most interesting artists of the genre. In his book Street Sketchbook (2007), Manco described him as “playful, inventive, referencing the classical style of graffiti, a contemporary Fernand Léger.” Zbiok has presented his work widely in Poland and abroad—in Germany, Italy, the United States, the Czech Republic, and France. He was awarded the Grand Prix at the 9th Geppert Competition for debuting Polish painters in 2009 and received a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage the same year. Internationally, he exhibits in spaces such as Banksy’s gallery, alongside artists like BLU and Banksy himself.
