Ziemowit Szczerek portrayed Lviv before Russia's attack on Ukraine. In his book "Imagined City: Lviv", he confronts the city as imagined by generations of nostalgic Polish tourists, and the postwar, Ukrainian Lviv – a city forging its own identity. ariel rosé, poet and essayist, spent two months in Lviv during the war in 2024.

This event will explore key questions such as: How has Lviv’s identity evolved in recent years? To what extent can the Polish perspective on today’s Ukraine enrich German understanding of the country?

Ziemowit Szczerek and ariel rosé will discuss the transformation of Lviv’s identity, viewed from both Polish and Ukrainian angles, focusing on the city before and after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
